My Covid scare and Dan’s giving of care

This essay I wrote for MultipleSclerosis.net goes inside my emotions and fears during my entire Covid experience. What is extra special about this article is that its posting ties into National Caregiver Day, which this year is February 18.

My almost two-year efforts of wearing masks, washing my hands and avoiding hugging Dan and my friends were all for naught.

On January 25, 2022, after an impromptu virtual visit with my primary doctor and one real-life nasal swab, the doctor’s suspicions and my fears were confirmed: I tested Covid positive. Eke!

I’m sitting here some three weeks since then and wondering to myself how the heck Dan and I made it through this Covid scare and counting our blessings that he, as my husband and primary caregiver, also didn’t get Covid.

We got lucky.

I am excited to share with you this essay – I’m Positive: MS, Covid-19 and 2/18 Are About More Than Me – that I wrote for MultipleSclerosis.net.  It goes inside my emotions and fears during the entire Covid experience. And what is extra special about this article is that its posting ties into National Caregiver Day, which this year is February 18.

“… I bring this up because the entire (Covid) ordeal encapsulates why I never could thank Dan enough for what he does for me every single day. I mean, have you ever stopped to think about how much your caregiver does for you?

Call it perfect timing, but Friday, February 18, is National Caregiver’s Day. This day celebrates the selfless efforts our caregivers put in to support us each day of the year. Whether it’s a spouse, family member, friend, or paid professional, there’s a specialness about all caregivers.”

Yes, I celebrate Dan each day of the year, but there’s something even more to it this year knowing what he dealt with during my time with Covid as well as my life with MS.

Please take a few minutes to read my essay and remember to show the people who care for you how much you appreciate them.
