Can’t spell music without MS

Dan and I often talk about the power music has in helping us through our life with Multiple Sclerosis. From meaningful lyrics, haunting melodies, hard-driving drums or guitar solos, music just gets us and meets us right where we are.

Dan joked during the REO Speedwagon concert that we were so close to the stage that he, “could play catch with Kevin Cronin!”

And it occurred to us the other day as we were talking about this that you can’t spell music without the letter “M” and the letter “S.”

Interesting, right?

Anywho… we felt fortunate that we finally saw REO Speedwagon in concert Saturday night. If you read our blog, you know why actually seeing this iconic rock band live in concert was such a big deal. The concert was amazing!

During the show, lead singer Kevin Cronin proudly told the crowd that he is 71 years old and that, “rock ‘n’ roll keeps him young.”

He is proof positive of that statement.

For nearly two hours, an energetic Cronin captivated the sellout crowd of 5,000 fans at Soaring Eagle Casino for the 17-song set of their best hits.

About 96 hours after our REO experience, we are going to see another incredible musician who probably would say the same thing Cronin said about the age-defying factors of rock music.

Yep, that’s right. We are seeing Dan’s favorite: 73-year-old Bruce Springsteen in Detroit.

After all of this, Dan and I are hoping that watching rock ‘n’ roll keeps fans young too 🤞

Yes, Riding The Storm Out is one of the best-ever songs to hear performed live!

REO closed its concert with a song that epitomizes how we deal with our MS: Roll With the Changes.
We were all smiles after the REO concert! Yes, we’re still smiling about it several days later.

  1. I felt the same way after a friend and I went to see New Kids on the Block, Salt N Pepa, Envog, and Rick Astley. It was such a non stop song after song energy. We felt it all the way on the hill! (We both said “note to self we are too old for the hill and to spend the extra for seats”) It was an experience that I’m glad that I was able to have with my work mom Rhonda and glad that we were able to do.

    • We feel much the same, Elizabeth! So glad you had such an incredible experience at your concert. It’s interesting how it can make us feel so young and so old at the same time!

  2. You are both such inspirations to me! Jeff also loved music (being a musician when we met in 1971). His favorite hobby as MS slowed him down was listening to all types of music while sitting and looking at our lake with all the wildlife. Thank you both for your amazing and insightful blog. Love and hugs, Cindy

    • Thank you so much for checking in and for your kind words, Cindy! And thank you for sharing this about Jeff. We can totally see him enjoying the music while looking out at the lake. Perhaps he was listening to REO or Springsteen a time or two? 🙂 We are so grateful for the time we got to spend with you both at the Tigers game a couple years ago. Love and hugs right back, Dan and Jennifer

  3. You got photo-bombed by that lady sucking on a drink. Looks like fun. Thanks for sharing your great night. (Isn’t it a shame how old our icons are getting? Glad we’re still young!)
