How increasing MS awareness was our thing this month

It’s often said that “things come in threes.” It is a bit non-descript as to what these “things” are and whether they are inherently bad or good.

For Jennifer and me, the month of March 2021 resulted in three very good things: the invitation to share our perspectives and insights in three separate online essays – two for Healthline.com and one for NervGen.com. It was such an honor to have our writing appear on such huge platforms, and we are thrilled to share them with you here!

What was especially, well, special about the Healthline essays was that this partnership included us temporarily taking over the Healthline: Living with Multiple Sclerosis Facebook community during MS Awareness Week March 7-13. It was such a great way to connect with so many other people who understand our realities.

Check out the essays here, and read all the way to the end of this post for some bonus coverage we weren’t expecting.

Accepting Your MS Doesn’t Happen Overnight — It’s a Work in Progress

A big lesson we’ve learned the past 20+ years is we need to remain flexible when adjusting to life with Multiple Sclerosis. Note we said “adjust” and not “surrender.” Check out this essay we wrote in partnership with Healthline that will help you see what you can do to get a handle on it.

How Massage Therapy Has Changed My Life with MS

Self-care? It may be more appropriate to consider it “selfless care.” Read my article written in partnership with Healthline to learn why, when living w/MS or being the caregiver for a person who has MS, massage therapy is a necessity and not a luxury.

Balancing Marriage and Multiple Sclerosis: A Couple Takes on MS

“When the pastor married us, did he say something like ‘Do you take this woman and her MS …’ or ‘Do you take this man and his MS …’ – no. We are two people who happen to have the same disease and it’s just a part of who we are in a marriage that at the core is the same as other couples.”

Thanks to NervGen Pharma Corp. for connecting with Jennifer and me and sharing our perspectives on love, marriage and how happiness is possible even when couples are dealing with a chronic illness.

Dan and Jennifer: Love and MS in the time of Covid

We’re so grateful to the Morning Sun (and my former colleague Linda Gittleman) for helping to increase MS awareness through telling our story and how we’ve handled life in these Covid times as two people living with MS. Linda did such a great job as a storyteller, and she really took a fresh approach to what living with MS is like when MS isn’t the only major health issue we need to keep our eyes on.
