“We look at everything through the lens of people living with Multiple Sclerosis. Covid-19 affects the entire population, but how does it affect two people with multiple sclerosis taking medication to control the progression of the disease …”
Yes, it’s a new year, but Covid isn’t going anywhere.
As we recorded this first episode of 2022, there were national reports about pending recommendations for people who are immunocompromised (like us who are taking disease-modifying therapies that impact our immune systems) to get a fourth vaccination shot. And to think we first wrote about a possible vaccine in a blog we posted on November 29, 2020.
Join us as we take a realistic look at how we – as two people living with MS – are approaching Covid, vaccines, boosters and the ever-evolving guidance from the CDC.
And here are links to the two helpful resources that we reference in our podcast for further insights and background on the issue of MS and Covid:
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Understanding Additional Doses and Boosters – This January 7, 2022, essay from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Blog takes a comprehensive yet easy-to-follow look into the current landscape of Covid-19 vaccines and boosters for people living with MS.
• COVID-19 Vaccine Update: Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders and the MS Community – Check out this link for the insightful webinar hosted by United Spinal Association that features discussions with infectious disease specialists including Dr. Clayton Foster, Dr. Scott Newsome and Nicolette A. Louissaint (oh yeah, and experiences from MS patients including the two of us!).
And for all this discussion, we’ll leave you with this final piece of advice and recommendation: Always consult with your healthcare provider for recommendations for how you should proceed with Covid vaccinations, boosters and your MS.
